Innovative Contextual Projects

K-6 Mini Grant

School-Business Educational Consortium (SBEC) will provide mini-grants to the certified K-6 staff of Axtell/Bern, Nemaha Valley, Marysville, Centralia/Frankfort, and Valley Heights school districts to promote career awareness.  The program is developed to provide an incentive for staff to develop career awareness projects for elementary students.

For the 2002 - 2003 school year teachers and counselors may apply for funding for career awareness projects that include students learning about a variety of career options.  Each project should be connected to a business.  The grant funding should not exceed $1,000.  Funding will be distributed for materials, supplies, planning time and small equipment (not to exceed half the total amount).

Grants will be awarded on a merit basis as determined by the School-Business Consortium Steering Committee.  Selections will be made without the knowledge of the name(s) of the applicant(s).

At the conclusion of the project, grant recipients will be expected to report the findings and effectiveness to the SBEC Steering Committee, district administrators, and school boards.  Successful projects will also be shared with other district employees and consortium members that would potentially gain from the information.

To be considered for an award, the grant application must be completed in full prior to submittal.  Incomplete grants will not be considered.  The consortium will not fund projects that have been funded through other sources in the past.  Grant applications are to be submitted to your superintendents office.  Applicants may consult with the Superintendent prior to submittal to ascertain completeness, compliance, and appropriateness.

To qualify for a grant, the applications must be completed and handed in by September 12, 2002 (fist deadline).  Grants are awarded based upon project scoring (see rubric) and available funds.
